PANJIM: Though Goa is witnessing respite from continuous rains for the last few days but the monsoon this year has left the state soaking with all the gauge stations in the state surpassing the 100 inch mark. Even Valpoi and Sanguem have surpassed 150 inch mark while others are inching towards the same figure.
According to data from IMD Goa, from June 1, 2024, to August 11, 2024, Mapusa has received 125.9 inches of rainfall, Pernem 140.5 inches, Ponda 134.7 inches, Panjim 129.2 inches, Old Goa 135.3 inches, Sanquelim 148.6 inches, Valpoi 168 inches, Dabolim 106.7 inches, Margao 130 inches, Mormugao 119.2 inches, Quepem 148.6 inches and Sanguem 166.7 inches of rainfall.
The state’s seasonal rainfall from June 1 to August 7 stood at 132.6 inches as against the normal rainfall of 85.78 inches, registering an increase of 54.6 per cent.
As far as average rainfall is concerned, the state has received 51.1 per cent more rainfall than the normal one. During the period of June 1 and August 11, the state has received 151 inches of average rainfall as against the normal rainfall of 90.7 inches.
According to the IMD Goa, North Goa received 51.4 per cent more average rainfall that the normal one while South Goa received 50.8 per cent more rainfall during the period.
As far as dams are concerned, Selaulim dam has received 151.5 inches of rainfall from a period of June 1 to August 9, 2024, as against 122.8 inches received during the same period last year.
Chapoli dam has received 100.8 of rainfall from June 1 to August 9, 2024, as against 128 of rainfall received during the same period last year.
Anjunem has received 139.8 of rainfall from June 1 to August 9, 2024, as against 184.1 received during the same period previous year.
As far as water levels in dams are concerned, except Tillari and Anjunem dams, all dams in the state are 100 per cent full. Even Selaulim dam is full by 102.99 per cent, although it is less than around 2.5 per cent compared to the previous year.
