Goa records 8 COVID deaths on second consecutive day

PANJIM: The daily number of COVID fatalities is a cause for concern as Goa since January 1, this year, has reported an alarming 88 deaths.

On Sunday, for the second consecutive day, the State reported eight deaths. 

It may be recalled that earlier on Thursday and Friday, nine deaths were reported on each of these days.

The daily COVID positivity rate, which had briefly dropped to 37.42 per cent on Saturday, shot up to 40.18 per cent on Sunday.  

Except for Saturday, it has been above 40 per cent the entire week.

34 new patients were hospitalised between Saturday and Sunday, while another 26 patients were discharged from various hospitals during the same period.

A total of 3,939 persons had their samples tested during that period.

The number of active cases, which were above 20,000 since January 15, dropped below 20,000 on Saturday, stood at 19,725 on Sunday.

While 3,232 persons recovered in the last 24 hours, 1,582 new COVID cases were reported by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS).
