Goa records highest single-day COVID deaths

PANJIM: The State recorded its highest single-day COVID-19 deaths, after nine persons succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours. The State also recorded 385 positive cases and 477 recoveries on Friday.

As per the health bulletin of the Directorate of Health Services, eight deaths were reported as on Friday evening while a 59-year-old man from Betki had died the previous day (after the release of daily bulletin). 

A 38- year-old and 53-year-old, both from Chimbel, 70-year-old from Sanguem, 45-year-old from Nuvem, 32-year-old from Dona Paula, 63-year-old from Ponda, 58-year-old from Majorda and the only woman deceased is a 70-year-old from Margao died on Friday. Four out of the nine deceased had co-morbid conditions.

With 135 deaths reported as on Friday evening, the count of confirmed cases stands at 13,484 while active cases are 3,809 and the recovered patients count has increased to 9,540.  

A total of 180 positive persons on Friday opted for home isolation, whereas 98 suspects are in hospital isolation. Eight inter-State travellers opted for home isolation.Margao urban health centre has the highest number of 493 cases, while Vasco UHC has 336, followed by 235 cases at Ponda primary health centre, 207 cases at Chimbel PHC, 204 at Porvorim PHC and 199 cases at Panjim UHC. Bicholim community health centre has the least 19 cases. 

Government records further state that 98 persons are quarantined across various residencies/hotels and 388 reports are awaiting results.
