PANJIM: A total of 404 confirmed cases of dengue have been reported in the State from January to October this year as against 400 cases reported during the same period last year.
According to data provided by the national vector-borne disease control programme (NVBDCP) cell of Directorate of Health Services, in October this year, as many as 101 cases were reported in the state as against 90 cases reported during the same period last year.
Out of 101 cases, 88 cases were reported in North Goa district while 13 were reported in the South Goa district.
In South Goa, two cases were reported in Margao, four in Vasco, two in Ponda, one in Shiroda, one in Cansaulim, two inCortalim and one in Loutolim.
In North Goa, Panjim reported 10 cases, Mapusa 17, Candolim 14, Pernem 4, Aldona 1, Bicholim 2, Valpoi 1, Casarvane 2, Siolim 8, Colvale 3, Sankhelim 10, Porvorim 1, Mayem 3, Chimbel 3 and Saligao 9.
As far as Chikungunya was concerned, in the month of October, one confirmed case was reported in the State as against six cases reported in the same month last year.
From January to October this year, the State registered six cases of Chikungunya as against 106 cases during the same period last year.
“There was an upsurge in Chikungunya cases in Margao, Curtorim but we are better off this year. So we worked hard and focused on source reduction drive, receptal collection drive, awareness activities etc. This helped us in controlling the surge in the cases. This also helped in controlling dengue cases in South Goa,” Directorate of Health Services National Vector Borne Disease Control Health Officer Dr Kalpana Mahatme told O Heraldo.
