MARGAO: The All Goa Senior Citizens Federation (AGSCF) has expressed concern over the slow delivery of verdicts by Deputy Collectors’ tribunals. The Federation believes that the delayed decisions are causing more problems and suffering for senior citizens.
During a function organised by AGSCF to honour Prakash Borgaonkar, Territory Head of Helpage India, Diogo Da Costa, President of the Federation, urged the audience to promote values among children at the grassroots level, to minimize issues faced by senior citizens.
Costa claimed that the tribunal’s prompt decisions were occasionally unjust and against senior citizens. Conversely, delayed verdicts had resulted in more hardships for seniors. He emphasized the importance of inculcating values among children, as he believes that value education can help create a kinder society.
“There are hundreds of cases where senior citizens are deprived of their rights and come to us with their complaints,” said Costa. “We have to argue on their behalf in the tribunal, which can be challenging and time-consuming,” he added.
At the function, Prakash Borgaonkar was honoured for his work in support of elderly citizens for over 35 years. Borgaonkar asserted that age is just a number and emphasized the importance of fitness, encouraging seniors to stay healthy and not depend on others for assistance.
