MARGAO: Goa Suraksha Manch while declaring its managing committee for South Goa said it would contest the municipal elections in all six municipalities in South Goa.
The Manch clarified that they may not contest all the seats but would definitely field candidates wherever they are strong.
Briefing the media persons State President Nitin Faldessai said, “They were also preparing for the Zilla panchayat elections but then the COVID-19 pandemic struck and the Manch had to opt out. This is the first time we shall participate in base elections and are gearing for it in all the municipalities.”
While pointing out that theirs is a new organization, hardly three years old, Faldessai said very shortly the youth committee will be announced and added that the responsibility of the party will be given to the youngsters while the elders will take on the task of guiding them.
While stating that they are open to contesting the municipal elections on party lines, Faldessai however said the BJP has no reason to gloat over the Zilla Panchayat results as it was a victory of BJP-Congress merged party.
He said, “Goa Suraksha Manch will take up the water problem in the State very shortly and the effect of diverting Mhadei River water is already being felt. We shall be launching a major signature campaign shortly.”
“IIT project is required in Goa but said not at the place where the government is proposing by displacing the farmers of their land and their crop. In Sanguem Taluka there is plenty of land where the IIT project can be set up,” he said while pointing out that even in Canacona it was rejected.
He stressed on the need for the government to be transparent and said what happened at Mopa should not be repeated elsewhere.
Goa Suraksha Manch South Goa President Satyavan alias Vithal Nagesh Naik named the South Goa Committee as under: Vice Presidents – Sanjay Anant Raut Dessai, Mahesh Pundalik Pai Fondekar and R B S Komarpant; General Secretary – Sameer Prabhakar Kutwalkar; Secretaries – Krishna Kharade and Suhas Bhaskar Kulkarni; Treasurer – Tushar Baburao Parab; Youth President – Aok Dhaklo Modak while Kashinath Vaze, Vinod Mahadev Prabhu Desai and Ranu Mangaldas Prabhu Desai would be the members.
