PANJIM: With Centre proposing to turn Goa into a logistic hub of the country, the BJP-led State coalition government has decided to draft a logistic policy. The government is looking at logistics as the new destination for investments in the coastal State.
The Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (IPB) is appointed as the nodal agency for formulating and implementation of the logistic policy. “Government of Goa is pleased to appoint IPB as the nodal agency for formulating and implementing the logistic policy of the State,” reads the order issued by Under Secretary (Industries) A S Mahatme.
The policy intends to focus on developing the logistics sector, setting up of logistics institutes and promoting Goa as leading logistic destination. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu during his visit to Goa in April, had said that the government plans to turn Goa into a logistics hub of the country.
“We are going to make Goa the logistics hub of the country. There are four coastal states on the Western coast- Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa. After Mumbai, the biggest airport that is going to come up is in Goa (in Mopa),” he had said.
The minister had said that existence of two airports in the State, including the second facility at Mopa which will be commissioned in the year 2020, would benefit positioning of the Goa as hub of logistics.
