Goa to be marketed as single-window wedding destination: Tourism Min

MARGAO: Goa, a favourite place for tourists is going to be promoted as a wedding destination from next year onwards.

Known for its pristine sun, sand, breathtaking landscapes and the palm fringed beaches, the State has now launched a single-window wedding destination for couples to exchange their vows in a hassle free way.

In a bid to promote Goa as a premier wedding destination, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte announced that the tourism department will market the state as a single-window wedding destination starting next year. The move, he said aligns with the Prime Minister’s emphasis on promoting India as a sought-after destination for weddings and related events.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Spirit of Goa festival held in Colva, Khaunte also urged stakeholders in the tourism sector to seize new opportunities coming up in the industry.

The Minister also highlighted the tourism sector’s significant contribution of 16.43% to the state’s GDP and its role as a major employment generator, providing direct and indirect jobs to 35% of the workforce.

On a different note, while addressing concerns over the state’s aviation infrastructure, the tourism minister assured the people of South Goa that the existing Dabolim Airport and the upcoming Mopa Airport will coexist, dismissing claims of politicians, who he criticized for trying to divide the state along geographical lines over the airport issue.
