Goa to cast vote for single Rajya Sabha seat on July 24

PANJIM:
Rajya Sabha Election for single seat of Goa will be held on July 24 along with the elections for nine Rajya Sabha seats in Goa, Gujarat, and West Bengal. The Legislature Secretary of Goa Namrata Ulman issued the notification after Election Commission of India announced the elections.

The last date for filing nominations is on July 13 after which the nominations will be scrutinised on July 14. July 17 is the last date for withdrawing nominations.

The Bharatiya Janata Party currently has 33 seats in the Goa Legislative Assembly including those who have given support from outside. After the wholesale defections in Goa the BJP is set to win the lone Rajya Sabha seat with ease second consecutive time with BJP President Sadanand Tanawade as their candidate.

While the BJP prepares for a win the Congress has decided to contest the polls seeking support from the Opposition benches. Currently, the opposition comprises of seven MLAs. LoP Yuri Alemao, Altone Dcosta, Carlos Fereira, AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, Goa Forward Party MLA Vijai Sardesai and Revolutionary Goans MLA Viresh Borkar. With RG already in loggerheads with the Congress united opposition in the Rajya Sabha polls seems to be unlikely.
