Goa to host ‘Invest Goa 2024’ on Jan 29

Goa-IDC has partnered with CII to organise the event; to present opportunities available in the State before the potential investors

PANJIM: With an objective of promoting new investments in the State, the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (Goa-IDC) in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will organise ‘Invest Goa 2024’.

Addressing a press conference at Panjim on Saturday, Minister for Industries, Trade and Commerce Mauvin Godinho said, “Invest Goa is a prelude to many things that are bound to happen in the industrial sector. A change has started with a new industrial policy which was announced last year along with a new warehousing and logistics policy that was also launched at that time. I had the opportunity to attend Vibrant Gujarat where I made a presentation. I also met a number of people including a number of delegates from UAE and other countries.”

“The interest they are showing in Goa now is something we have to take note of as it is mind-boggling provided you give them good facilities to set up their industry, a good system which is friendly to them. I think Goa is for a big change. After Vibrant Gujarat I was in Mumbai where I held meetings with the Consul General of UAE, Finland and Netherlands to get FDI investment in Goa. We are promoting more industrial activities,” he said.

“We want to promote eco-friendly industry in Goa. Transfer of plots has become very easy. Almost 20 per cent of the landlocked areas are free for the industry to put in their new units to get in more investment. We have also formulated policies and also created our visibility on the national level. Of course, you have other states following the suit but Goa has moved forward in this direction. The inquiries that are coming are really good. I would like Goa to be known for environment-friendly industries such as entertainment, IT and ITes sector,” he said.

Godinho said a request has been made to the government to consider increasing FAR for industrial units so that even the existing units without acquiring new land can increase production which will be cost-efficient.

“Efforts are to allow existing units to expand, simplify things as well as get new industries to come,” he said.

Managing Director of Goa-IDC Parimal Abhishek, IAS, said the main objective of Invest Goa is to present opportunities available with Goa before the potential investors.

Abhishek expressed hope that the event will change the narrative and also offer an opportunity to the industrialists who want to set up units in Goa. He said Goa-IDC has partnered with CII to organise the event.
