PANJIM: Goa has topped an index that ranked States ensuring food safety in 2019-20 amongst the small States in the country. Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have topped the list in the larger State category.
The index on food safety was released by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on the occasion of World Food Safety Day on June 7, with the theme “Food Safety is Everyone’s Business” that was dedicated to those in the supply chain who have ensured the uninterrupted availability of safe food during this COVID-19 pandemic.

The index ranks states on five parameters of food safety: human resources and institutional data, compliance, food testing facility, training and capacity building besides consumer empowerment.
“Goa has been ranked the best in all five parameters of evaluation in food safety index by FSSAI in the small state category,” Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced.
Minister congratulated the entire team of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) who ensured the success under Director Jyoti Sardessai.
Among the smaller States, Goa is followed by Manipur and Meghalaya. Among Union Territories, Chandigarh, Delhi and Andaman Islands secured top ranks.
