Goa University does not budge from stand on Dhempe issue

Decision by Chancellor Dr Mridula Sinha is expected on June 18

PANJIM: Goa University (GU) has maintained its stand of not promoting ineligible students of Dhempe College of Arts & Science amidst the ongoing heated debate over the attendance fiasco.
In its report to GU Chancellor Dr Mridula Sinha, the varsity citing GU ordinances OC 45 and OA 17 has cleared its stand that it was not possible to declare results of the supplementary exams.
“A supplementary examination is conducted for those students who have not been able to clear semester end examination after fulfilling 75 percent attendance during a semester. A candidate failing to fulfill the condition has to repeat the semester,” the report is supposed to have mentioned.
The report has also annexed attendance records of the students obtained from the college besides Principal Yasmin Modassir’s letter to Sinha on June 2 admitting that remedial classes were held since the faculty was busy with NAAC procedure besides other activities. Dhempe College had also stated that its move was on humanitarian grounds to help students fulfill the minimum attendance requirement.
The decision now lies with the Chancellor who is expected to arrive on June 18.
