Goa witnesses spike in active Covid cases

PANJIM: The number of Covid-19 cases witnessed a huge leap on Tuesday with 165 new cases detected, taking the total number of active cases to 795 in Goa. 

On Sunday, the total number of active cases saw an increase from 713 to 795 active cases that were recorded on Tuesday. 397 new samples of infected persons were tested of which 40 were found to be positive for Covid. It may be recalled that Goa recorded its first Covid death after several months last week.

At present, 62 patients are in home isolation while three new patients have been hospitalised. The Government of Goa will play host for the G20 Summit meetings while the State witnesses an increase in Covid cases as well as tourists. 

As far as the national Covid scenario is concerned, 3,038 new cases were recorded within the last 24 hours. Seven patients have died due to the infection while the total number of cases remains at a worrisome 21,000, across the country. National leaders namely Vasundhara Raje and Ashok Gehlot were tested positive for the infection, on Tuesday. 

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said, “Covid is a virus that keeps mutating, and 214 different variants have been found in India so far. The government is prepared to deal with the recent spike in infections.
