PANJIM: GOACAN has written to Chief Secretary, Transport Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) besides collectors of both districts urging them to collate data related to road accidents, grievous injuries and fatalities involving cyclists in the last 15 years.
In a letter, which has also been addressed to Directors of Transport, Health, Panchayats, Urban Development and Consumer Affairs, Public works Department (PWD) Principal Chief Engineer and Chairman Lead Agency, Roland Martins, Coordinator, GOACAN, has said that the data related to road accidents, grievous injuries and fatalities involving cyclists in the last 15 years, district and taluka wise, should be collated so that it is available for study by various departments like Transport, PWD, Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and Education and the same be discussed by the District Road Safety Committees.
The GOACN has also asked to submit specific recommendations on road engineering that are relevant to bicycles and cyclists, to the PWD and the concerned village panchayats and municipal councils for their immediate consideration.
It has also asked to prepare a special road safety awareness plan for cyclists in both districts of Goa using IEC materials which can be implemented in collaboration with the cycling clubs and the road safety and traffic management committees of the respective village panchayats and municipal councils.
