GOACAN cautions consumers against fake medical practitioners

PANJIM: As the world celebrates World Health Day on Sunday, civic and consumer rights forum GOACAN has cautioned consumers against fake medical practitioners in Goa. The forum is apprehensive about people taking undue advantage of medical tourism in the tourist-popular coastal State.
Forum’s coordinator Roland Martins has asked the people to be alert that the WHO Universal Health Coverage theme “Everyone, Everywhere” is not allowed to be converted to “Anyone, Anywhere” in Goa and urged to immediately report the operations of fake doctors, healers, so-called Baba’s and quacks to Goa Police for action.
“With Goa now India’s number one sought after tourist destination, all sorts of dubious characters have descended on the State and are taking advantage of the ‘medical tourism’ slogan to offer all kinds of health treatments in residential complexes, office spaces and rented apartments in housing societies,” he said.
