GOACAN flays Margao KTC bus stand’s woeful condition

MARGAO: GOACAN on Wednesday held a joint inspection of KTC bus stand at Margao over road safety issues at the bus stand. The GOACAN has flayed the KTC for not providing basic amenities at the bus stand thereby endangering the passengers.
GOACAN members, KTC Margao Depot Manager Roque Louis, and other officials were present during the inspection.
The GOACAN team noticed that the roads on entry and exit of the bus stand are in very bad state and that there is no notification board for bus routes erected at the stand.
There are 16 routes in South Goa and the travellers have to go searching for the buses. GOACAN has suggested that the KTC erect signboards immediately and take guidance from RTO for the same.
KTC stated that the city buses are a problem within the bus stand.  The NGO asked KTC to take measures to improve the conditions of the bus stand at the earliest.
Complaints against the Sulabh toilet operator overcharging were highlighted along with the issue of the absence of drinking water facility for even bus conductors and drivers.
Roland Martins of GOACAN said that the purpose of the inspection was to bring all the officials and decision makers on one platform, to cover issues of the bus stand. “We are confident that they will do it” Martins said.
“We want facilities for women, children and elders. This is the main bus stand for South Goa and good supervision, quick action can solve the issues. At least by October 2, we expect of some issues to be resolved. We have written and placed the issues before and feel that the MD and GM should hold surprise inspection,” Martins said.
Meanwhile, the GOACAN as a part of Road Safety Awareness Action held an activity at Carmel College gate Nuvem.
The Assistant Director of Transport Vinod Arlekar said that this activity will go a long way in creating a more traffic sense aware society in future.
