GOACAN holds road safety awareness rally near Navelim

MARGAO: The Civic and Consumer Forum, GOACAN on Monday, organised a Road Safety Awareness Action rally at the Margao flyover junction near Navelim to highlight various issues of road safety and traffic management.

Organised as part of the ongoing National Road Safety Month 2024, the two-hour long rally had the participation of GOACAN volunteers who were armed with placards which had road safety messages for drivers, riders and pedestrians.

Slow down, observe speed limits, save lives, wear seat belts for your safety, use only ISI marked helmets and respect the rights of pedestrians at zebra crossings were some of the messages that the volunteers highlighted during the awareness action.

The Road Safety Awareness Action, which was led by GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins, saw the participation of Consumer Forum volunteers from Navelim, Velim, Davorlim, Cuncolim, Raia and Majorda. The Awareness Action was assisted by J Borges, Assistant Sub-Inspector Traffic Cell Margao and Charles Faria, AMVI Directorate of Transport (Enforcement) South, along with entire staff.

Meanwhile GOACAN has decided to mobilise the Road Safety and Traffic Management Committee of the village panchayats and municipal councils of South Goa District to convene their meetings, take stock of the road accident scenario and submit their recommendations to the South Goa District Road Safety Committee chaired by South Goa Collector Asvin Chandru, by March 31, 2024.
