PANJIM: Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) will observe vigilance awareness week with the theme ‘I Care’ from October 30 to November 5.
The awareness week will highlight the need for consumers to be vigilant against the malpractices being carried out by Government & Commercial agencies which is causing a financial loss to the consumer.
The GOACAN volunteers during this week will examine complaints about deficiency in service due to lack of supervision by officials in matters concerning electricity, bus transport, food safety packaged commodities, tourism, fire safety, telephone services, weights and measures, cable TV, LPG cylinders, public toilets, banking services and post offices among others.
During the vigilance awareness week, GOACAN volunteers will also visit government offices to check for the availability of the public grievance officer, citizens charter and the suggestion-cum- complaint book.
The GOACAN will have a special activity during the awareness week called “Spot the Deficiency, Identify the Official, Pursue the Remedy” which will have the participation of volunteers from Consumer Forums, CWCs, SHGs, Social Clubs, and Housing Societies amongst others.
During the week, GOACAN volunteers will also verify if awareness has been undertaken of the Public Interest Disclosure & Protection of Informer Resolution, 2004 (PIDPI) as required by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
