GOACAN to observe vigilance week

VASCO:  GOACAN will observe Vigilance Awareness Week on the theme “I Care” from October 27 to November 2. 
The week is likely to highlight the need for  consumers  to be vigilant against the allegedly malpractices by government and commercial agencies thereby causing  financial loss to the consumers.
In a press release, GOACAN stated that during this week, it would also launch a yearlong vigilance awareness campaign to tackle the losses incurred by Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) due to ticket-less travel by consumers and the fraud in banks and credit co-operative societies due to which depositors are losing their hard-earned money.
GOACAN volunteers would examine complaints about deficiency in service due to lack of supervision by officials in matters pertaining to electricity, bus transport, food safety, packaged commodities, tourism, fire safety, telephone services, cable TV, LPG cylinders,  public toilets, fair price shops, banking services, post offices and health services among others.
During the  Awareness Week, GOACAN volunteers would also visit government offices to check for the availability of the public grievance officer, citizens’ charter and the suggestion cum complaint book.
It further informed that the special focus would be on the officials responsible for enforcement of the provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 & Goa Rules 2009, Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and Goa Ground Water Regulation Act 2002 & Rules 2003.
GOACAN volunteers would make efforts to popularise the benefits of the Right To Information Act 2005 to ensure the implementation of its provisions & the obligations of the notified public authorities.
