GOACAN urges govt to remove dangerous trees in Canacona

CANACONA: Taking cognisance of the report appearing in the Herald “Canacona witnessing surge in tree falls”, the Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) in its complaint to various government departments has urged them to intervene and remove the dangerous trees before they crash.
It may be recalled that over 175 trees got uprooted last year and had caused huge financial losses to the locals as most of them had fallen on houses, vehicles, electrical alignments and roads.
GOACAN in its complaint to the deputy collector, who is the administrative head of Canacona taluka, has urged him to intervene and direct the removal of more such trees immediately, which are dangerous.
The copies of the complaint have been forwarded to various government departments for inter-sectoral interventions and immediate action in view of the oncoming monsoon.
Anil Bhagat, a social activist said with the raging monsoons not far in sight, if the authorities do not do their part, the trees will cause more misery and distress to the Canacona locals.
