GOACAN warns LPG dealers of action for forcing consumers to complete eKYC process by Dec 31

Appeals to the LPG companies and the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs to issue the necessary clarification in this matter

MARGAO: Against the backdrop of widespread panic in the State regarding LPG consumers being forced to provide Aadhaar Card details and complete eKYC process by December 31, consumer and civic forum GOACAN has warned all LPG dealers that they will face action under Consumer Protection Act 2019 if they try to force the consumers to do so.

GOCAN also appealed to the LPG companies and the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs to issue the necessary clarification in this matter, so that consumers are not put to any hardship in the next few days.

GOACAN also sought to inform all LPG consumers in Goa that no one can force any consumer to link Aadhaar Card to their LPG connection as there is no subsidy involved in the price that the consumer is paying.

GOACAN further emphasised that there is no notification of any Government authority that makes Aadhaar Card linkage as compulsory and urged those LPG Consumers being forced to link their Aadhar Card to file their complaints at goacancomplaintscell@gmail.com.

It may be recalled that there have been long queues at LPG gas dealerships as well these days.

“We from GOACAN have received a series of complaints in the last three days about LPG dealers and their agents, forcing consumers to come and complete their KYC process by December 31. Now, this is an unacceptable practice because there is no such compulsion wherein any consumer has to complete the KYC process, which makes it mandatory to provide your Aadhaar card details,” said GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins in a video message that was issued to the public as well.

“The consumers have been given wrong information and therefore put too much pressure on women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities in the last few days of this year of 2023,” Martins added further.

“We are appealing to consumers. Please do not fall prey to this misinformation that your LPG connection will be blocked. You will not receive any refills if you do not complete the KYC process by  December 31,” Martins concluded.
