GOACAN writes to collector to review LPG delivery

The July 6 incident of pilferage of gas from LPG cylinders in Benaulim has created fear and anxiety in the minds of the consumers.

MARGAO: GOACAN, a consumer rights group, has written to the South Goa Collector Swapnil Naik calling for an urgent review of the delivery of LPG cylinders and the monitoring of the same in South Goa.
In a letter, GOACAN has pointed out that the July 6 incident of pilferage of gas from LPG cylinders in Benaulim has created fear and anxiety in the minds of the consumers in South Goa.
Moreover, it wrote, the discovery of improper weighing machines with an LPG dealer and the recent reported transfer of the Civil Supplies Inspector & Sub-Inspector of Salcete Taluka due to their lack of action in this pilferage matter have further shaken the confidence of the consumers in the vigilance and monitoring role of the various government agencies.
GOACAN has requested the collector to convene a meeting of the various agencies connected with the delivery of LPG cylinders and monitoring of the same.
Some issues that need to be discussed in the meeting are: 100% Home delivery of LPG cylinders instead of cash-n-carry, facility to weigh the cylinder, issue of computerised bill, availability of 5 kg cylinder refill and new improvised regulator, mandatory mechanical safety check once in every two years, redressal of grievances in case of non-receipt of subsidy and checks on misuse of domestic cylinders for commercial use.
