Panjim/ponda: App-based cab service GoaMiles is firm to continue operations, notwithstanding pressure mounted by the tourist taxi operators to scrap the service. Director of Operations, GoaMiles, Parashar Pai Khot has decided to approach the judiciary if they are “forced” to shut the service.

“Under no circumstances GoaMiles will shut its operations. We are doing the business legally to bring a sustainable economy. We are ready to knock the doors of the court if we are forced to close. We will explore all legal options,” he said while addressing a press conference that came in quick response to Minister Michael Lobo’s statement alleging violation of Motor Vehicle Rules by the app-based taxi aggregator.

Khot took on Lobo asking to produce evidence to substantiate his allegations against GoaMiles. Lobo, who has often backed the tourist taxi operators, further alleged that the then Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar had taken a wrong decision to allow GoaMiles without taking the stakeholders into confidence. Khot has countered the allegation by reminding the Calangute MLA that Parrikar sought his approval before giving a go-ahead to the new cab service in the State.

“Parrikar had asked Lobo if he had any problem in giving permission to GoaMiles. Lobo clearly said he had no problem. I was also present for the meeting. Why is Lobo making a statement now that Parrikar didn’t take him into confidence?,” Khot questioned while stating he reposes faith that the present CM Pramod Sawant will not bow to pressure tactics by the anti-GoaMiles lobby.

With the tussle between tourist taxi operators and GoaMiles taking a new turn every passing day, Khot suggested that installing meters will resolve the issue, a project which is not taking off due to opposition from the tourist taxis. “Not only taxis but GoaMiles should also have the fare meters. But unfortunately, the taxi operators are against the meters because they want to continue charging exaggerated fares from their passengers.”

GoaMiles has also asked Lobo to visit domestic airports across the country where app-based taxi aggregators have dedicated counters. It has also urged its business rival to not give false details about their total strength of vehicles.
