GoaMiles driver assaulted at Anjuna

MAPUSA: A GoaMiles driver, Shaikh Arunbasha was allegedly assaulted and abused by an individual near a resort at Anjuna on Monday night. The entire assault was caught on CCTV footage. The driver from Margao sustained simple injuries in this incident and was sent for medical examination. The attack took place around 8.30 pm when the 43-year-old driver was on duty and an individual from the hotel’s parking area wrongfully restrained the complainant, abused him with filth words, and assaulted him with slaps and fist blows.
The GoaMiles taxi operator’s car was stopped forcibly and his Samsung J8 mobile phone worth Rs 18,000 was also damaged by the accused.  The driver was further threatened that he would be assaulted if he comes to Anjuna again.
After the incident, a formal complaint was lodged with the Anjuna Police Station on Tuesday. A case has been registered by Anjuna Police against an unknown person under section 341, 323, 427, 504, 506 of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are underway Anjuna PI, Suraj Gawas.
Anjuna police are yet to identify and arrest the accused.
Several GoaMiles taxi operators later gathered outside Anjuna Police Station demanding immediate action.
