PANJIM: Four noted Goan artists, Harshada Kerkar, Loretti Pinto, Salvador Fernandes and Rajesh Salgaoncar will be exhibiting their works at the exhibition that will kick start the three-month long Semana da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa (Goa) celebrations. The exhibition that will be held at Sunaparanta-Centre for the Arts, Altinho and will be open to the public from October 26 to November 1, 2013 from 10am to 7pm.
The exhibition will bring out the individual styles of each of the artists with different mediums. Harshada Kerkar is working on the theme of cows and calves with charcoal on paper while experimenting with a new medium, slate with dry pastels. “I am eager to display the works for the exhibition as I will get to know the response for the new medium. I was working on this theme in the past and got inspired to finally complete the works for this exhibition,” said Harshada.
Salvador Fernandes is working on the theme of ‘Evolution’, Loretti Pinto will bring out works on ‘Goan Architecture’ focussing on decaying Goan homes while Rajesh Salgaoncar will display works on ‘Fish Fantasy’. “We were not working on a particular theme for the exhibition. However, art brings everyone together without a title,” said Loretti.
Speaking about the sale of paintings at the exhibition, the artists are of the opinion that recession has hit the art market even in Goa, “We have kept the rates reasonable for this exhibition. Buyers are not limited to art exhibitions in galleries alone and artists can now sell their works on the internet as well. There is a lot of exchange on information through the medium of internet,” said Loretti.
This will be the fifth edition of the Semana da Cultura Indo Portuguesa (Goa), a celebration of Indian and Portuguese culture including art, cinema, music, cuisine, theatre, literature and more. The festival will also feature plays, tiatrs, musical evenings and film festivals and get-togethers in the coming months.
