MARGAO: The proprietor of Achal Cashew Industries Giridhar Prabhu has said that Goan cashew nuts are in high demand and fetching high price for farmers.
It is also fetching the highest price in the international market. However, he said, the farmers need support schemes to cultivation of cashew in Goa.
Achal Industries is one of the biggest buyers of Goan cashews.
“Goan cashew is the biggest paid cashew in not just Indian but also in international market. However, India should be disallowed from being a dumping centre for cashews of entire world, Prabhu said.
He informed that he has written to the Central Government regarding this much earlier.
He also said that there is a need for having manufacturing units in Goa which will be of great help to Goan cashew cultivators.
When asked about the allegation of mafia made by the former agriculture minister, Prabhu said, “I purchase the maximum amount of cashews from Goa and I have a very transparent and updated system to procure. There is no chance of any mafia developing in that system.”
