MARGAO: In yet another land scam registered by the Maina-Curtorim police, a couple has been booked for allegedly cheating complainant Jeet Jain of Rs 2.20 crore by selling him a property in 2017 using forged documents.
Police disclosed that they have registered an offence under Sections 406, 420, 465, 468, and 474 read with 34 of the IPC, and investigations are in progress in this case registered on December 7.
The accused in the case are Agnelo D’Souza and Macklin Pereira e D’Souza, both residents of Nagwado, Betalbatim.
Police said that the accused allegedly, using forged documents, entered into an agreement with Jain for the sale of a 19,250 sq mtr plot of land in July 2017.
As per the FIR, the alleged accused forged documents of the property under Survey No. 229/2 situated at Belloy, Nuvem, and induced him to purchase the said property, taking from him an amount of Rs 2.20 crore.
Hence the duo cheated the complainant by using forged property documents and entering into an agreement dishonestly with an intention to commit fraud.
While stating that a case has been registered, the police said no arrests have been made as yet as they are investigating the case, and statements will be recorded.
The complaint was lodged after the complainant realised that the land did not belong to the duo. It is learned that since the matter relates to land grabbing, it may be handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the government to investigate such cases.
It may be recalled that the Fatorda Police, in a similar scam, had registered an FIR against 15 persons from different places, following a complaint lodged by Salcete Mamlatdar, regarding mutation cases based on forged documents.
The FIR was registered under Sections 465, 468, 471, 420(b) read with section 34 of the IPC and also Section 420 for cheating and forgery in the said case.
As per the FIR, the accused had created forged title documents- Deed of Succession, Deed of Sale, Tenancy Purchase Certificate, Deed of family partition — and produced them as genuine documents before the Mamlatdar/Joint Mamlatdar, Salcete, in mutation proceedings and got their names included in Form IX of properties. This case has been handed over to the SIT.
