Goan seafarers stranded onboard ships in UK cry for help

Panjim/Margao: The Goan’s stranded in Marella Cruises in UK have charged that the Indian High Commission in London has been unnecessarily delaying their repatriation to India despite the best efforts from their company.

In an email to Herald, the seafarers said that they have been at sea for almost 90 days due to the global pandemic lockdown. They said their company Marella cruises has been trying their lever best to send the Indian crew back to India and have arranged their personal aircrafts to charter the 650 Indians back to India by Tui flights.

“However the government of India is not giving them the clearance to fly the crew since May 28. Whenever the flights were scheduled, they were cancelled at the last moment as the High Commission of India in London is asking for more and more paper work. This has been the case three times now,” the seafarers wrote. The seafarers further requested the govt to immediately give an approval for the chartered flights.

“Our company has done all the things they could do for us.  There are many who have lost their loved ones and could not give their last respects to their beloved family members. Please help us …..please help us,” they added.
