Goan senior citizen cyber conned of a whopping Rs 1.18 crores by means of cheating through cyber mode

A Goan senior citizen was cyber conned of a whopping Rs 1.18 crores by means of cheating through cyber mode. 

On December 13 Cyber Crime police registered a case of a retired senior citizen of having parted with Rs 1.18 crore. He received phone call from a person pretending to be from FedEx logistics agency and that his parcel is intercepted by Mumbai Crime Branch with drugs. In the efforts to settle the matter, retired senior citizen of reputed company parted with 1.18 cr. 

Cyber Police with keen interest narrowed down and closely observed pattern in the crime. The investigation led to multiple transfers of various amounts and some amount is seen transferred to Abu Dhabi.

During investigation it was found that in similar manner a person from Merces has been cheated and case is registered. 

It may be recalled that OHeraldo had highlighted how in Goa, concerns are rapidly mounting over the surging number of cyber crime cases, with a particularly distressing trend targeting senior citizens. 

The picturesque coastal state has witnessed a worrisome increase in hacking attempts and online scams, leaving the elderly population vulnerable and, in some cases, causing them to lose their hard-earned savings. Now, two back to back cases have increased the fears of Goans on Cyber Crimes and their vulnerability to be conned.
