Goan student stranded in violence-hit Manipur returns home safely

VASCO: Suvidya Naik, a Goan student, who was stranded in violence-hit Manipur returned home safely on Saturday evening.

After coming out from the Dabolim Airport, Dr Suvidya told mediapersons that she was happy to return home. She said that no student was harmed or injured following clashes between the tribal community and the Meitei community in Manipur. 

“Violence situation being new to us we were all scared and it was a life and death situation. This is why we wanted to get out from there (Manipur) as soon as possible,” she said.

According to Suvidya, she was in Manipur for last four months studying Masters in Clinical Psychology. 

She said that she had just answered her exams and was waiting for the practical exams when the violence broke out. She said that she will go back to Manipur to complete her studies once the Manipur University intimates her after the peace returns there. 

Suvidya, granddaughter of former MLA K B Naik, was the only student from the State studying in the Manipur University. Suvidya’s father Sunil Naik, who was at the airport, thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his timely intervention to rescue his daughter from Manipur and ensure her safe return. He also thanked Goa DIG Dr AKoan, who was put specially on duty for evacuating and escorting Suvidya from Manipur to Goa and the CRPF team, who promptly handled the situation in trouble-torn State and brought her to the airport.
