MARGAO: Claiming that the transport contractor from Maharashtra has not taken any Goan vehicles for the Lusofonia Games, South Goa Tourist Taxi Owners Association has said that the government by favouring the tender to an outside party has deprived hundreds of Goan taxi drivers a chance to earn some money.
“We are willing to give our vehicles on hire to GT travels from Maharashtra as we have Goan taxi permit and badges but all the 450 vehicles used are from Maharashtra. As per RTO rules, outside cars cannot be used in bulk in Goa. The RTO does not allow drivers with outsides badges to do business in Goa then how can these vehicles do business for more than 15 days”, said Association general secretary Nava Uday Malvankar.
He said the same tender could have been divided and some taxi vehicles from Goa could have been used, adding “the present government by giving this tender to GT travels from Maharashtra has not only deprived Goan taxi drivers, but Goans at large.”
