PANJIM: Goans For Dabolim Only (GFDO) has yet again lashed out at the ruling coalition, alleging it is fooling local citizens on the proposed International Greenfield airport at Mopa while terming the project as a ‘massive land scam.’
“We have been repeatedly warning all Goans that Mopa airport is nothing but a massive land scam that will destroy Goa irreversibly. While the Government continues to fool the people by saying that Mopa airport is necessary and feasible, its decision to gift 381 acres of land under acquisition to a private airport developer for commercial use at four FAR proves Mopa is nothing but a massive land scam,” Convenor Fr Eremito Rebello alleged at a press briefing on Tuesday.
The group has demanded that ministers Alina Saldanha and Avertano Furtado should come out openly on their stand as they had raised apprehensions regarding the Mopa airport project.
Considering the large acres of land being reportedly offered to private company free of cost, the activists claimed the move is a cruel joke on the unsuspecting Pernem residents, who are being displaced under the false promise of development and offered pittance for compensation.
“Our Government has announced that an unknown private “investor” is being gifted land with permissions for commercial use valued at over Rs 12,000 crore. While Mopa is being paraded as a necessity and economically viable project, a gift of over Rs 12,000 crore is being offered to private party, revealing that speculative windfall profits are all that matters to our decision makers,” a press statement reads as. The activists said the land scam is much bigger than SEZ.
