PANJIM: Indian crew and passengers on board the coronavirus-affected cruise ship Diamond Princess disembarked on Wednesday amidst increasing number of cases. The Indians, stranded on the ship, boarded an Air India flight sent by the Government of India.

They will land in Delhi International Airport and will undergo a test. Among the Indians also are several Goans, however, it is not known if all 50 Goans are returning as the Embassy of India in Tokyo has not divulged the identity of the 16 Indians infected with the virus. Passengers returning to India have not tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Little before this development, Sanjay Kumar Verma, Ambassador of India to Japan, in his reply to NRI Commissioner in Goa Narendra Sawaikar informed that arrangements for bringing the Goan crew on Diamond Princess are being made and that very soon they will be back to the motherland.

“Goan/Indian crew from #DiamondPrincess has posted the in-flight photo after boarding homeward-bound AI plane to India. Thank you,” Sawaikar tweeted.

The NRI Commissioner had earlier sent a formal communiqué to the Embassy seeking details of Goans on board the ship.
