Goans rise in unison to condemn Sri Ram Sene

People cutting across communities have criticised the Sri Ram Sene (SRS) for dragging the church in Goa in its police complaint against Goan tiatrist Tousif de Navelim. What has angered Goans is that the SRS’s police complaint has dragged the church into the controversy by linking it to Tousif’s tiatr and has even gone to the extent of placing the church alongside the drug and liquor mafia. They have also hit out at the SRS for attempting to divide communities in the State.

We take strong objection to Muthalik’s attempt to link the Church with drug mafia and liquor barons. This only exposes his evil intent.
— Savio Lopes, Social worker Chinchinim
We Goans will not get led by the false propaganda of Pramod Muthalik and his SRS. We have cordial relations among all communities in Goa. We share common culture, language and ancestry and have live in communal harmony for ages. Hence, we will not tolerate any design to divide us.
— Sidharth Karapurkar. Navelim
Why is our Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar silent on this burning issue in our society? Is he welcoming Muthalik into Goa through the back door? We Goans will not allow Muthalik to gate crash into Goa with his divisive design.
Iftiaz Sayad, Social Activist, Margao
SRS certainly will be aware of the truth about the Church and when confronted they would definitely recognize publicly the nobility of its tenets yet they consider proclamation of falsehood as their birthright. About equating the Church with the drug mafia and liquor barons, I could merely plead, Father forgive them for speaking out lies despite knowing the truth.
Fr Savio Fernandes, CSJP Executive Secretary
Muthalik should understand that his forced entry into Goa is an insult to all Goans as it renders us incapable of minding our business. It makes the forces that are ruling us impotent.
Zarina Da Cunha, social activist from Nuvem
Muthalik seems to be silent on Casino. Is he the front man of the casino lobby or is he propped up by political forces for their divisive agenda? Muthalik’s association with the ruling dispensation is well-known. Why is he not using his good offices to settle the problems associated with drug mafia and pub culture?
Jose Marie Miranda, Margao
Why is Muthalik determined to enter Goa against the wishes of Goans? It is clear who wants to convert whom? We Goans will not bow down to this forced conversion in Goa.
Fr Victor Ferrao, Rachol Seminary
People like Muthalik are anti-constitutional. They are against the very idea of India as has been proposed in our constitution. They want fundamental rights as per Indian constitution but shamelessly refuse to do their fundamental duties as Indian citizens.
— Dr Mukul Pai Raiturkar,Margao
By their actions, Goans have so far advocated and lived by the principles of equality and communal amity. They will continue their peaceful coexistence inspite of efforts like Muthalik to create divisions.
