Goa’s COVID graph continues to surge; 300 new cases

Death tally goes past the 100-mark

PANJIM: Goa’s COVID-19 death tally surpassed 100-mark on Sunday as six positive patients, with co-morbid conditions, succumbed to the deadly virus. Till date, 104 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus.

The day also saw 300 new cases, of which 127 opted for home isolation. As many as 287 patients tested negative and were declared cured.

With this, the State’s confirmed cases stood at 11,639 of which 3,760 are active patients, while 7,775 are recovered.

As per the Health Bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS) total six patients succumbed to the infection, of which one death was reported on Sunday, while four were on Saturday. One additional death was on August 14.

A 66-year old male from Gogol, margao, admitted at ESI Hospital, was declared dead on Sunday.

The four patients, who died on Saturday are – 60-year-old male from Panjim, admitted at SMRC. 70-year-old female from Ponda, admitted in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) and 89-year-old male from Margao and 39-year-old male from Davorlim, admitted in ESI Hospital.

On August 14, a 36-year-old male from Chimbel, admitted in GMC, was declared dead.

Further, of the 1,979 samples tested for Coronavirus, 300 were declared positive while 1,436 are negative. The test results of 243 people are still awaited.

Moreover, there are 97 patients in hospital isolation.

Meanwhile, a jail guard attached to Colvale Central Jail tested positive for COVID on Sunday. This is the third COVID positive case reported in the jail.
