PANJIM: The INDIA Bloc alliance partners — Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders reacted sharply to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi on Thursday, saying it was not but mere dictatorship.
Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao said, “This is a very bad incident to happen in the history of democracy. In democracy opposition has to be vibrant. People are watching this dictatorial type of attitude. As an INDIA alliance partner we stand with the Aam Aadmi Party. We will definitely fight against it,” he said.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar said, “We have already been saying that under the Modi regime murder of democracy is happening. Today they have realised that people are not with them and are not going to vote for them so they are using all these Central agencies like ED, CBI and Income Tax.People of this country have to have little patience. In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections we have to show to the dictatorship that the people’s power is supreme. You cannot use all these agencies and threaten like this,” he said.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) State Convenor Adv Amit Palekar said, “The arrest has been made to prevent Arvind Kejriwal from campaigning in the elections. However, it will ultimately affect AAP positively. However, it sends a message how BJP is misusing ED. ED has not taken action against those who joined BJP. The action is only against those who are in the opposition.”
AAP Goa Vice President Valmiki Naik said, “Even after the court has given time to Arvind Kejirwal and next date in a case that was filed by ED itself, why was ED in a hurry to arrest him today? No evidence has been found in this case yet. They have not even started the trial yet.”
“The whole excise scam case was only designed to jail the AAP leaders because today people like Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Arvind Kejriwal are the strongest voices in Indian politics,” he said.
