PANJIM: Another fatal accident was reported in the State on Sunday, as a 58-year-old man died when his two-wheeler collided with a car on Pernem National Highway in Poroscodem, taking the death toll due to accidents on Goan roads to five in the last 48 hours.a
According to Pernem police, the accident occurred when the deceased Ajit Vasant Chari, a resident of Poroscodem, riding a two-wheeler, was crossing the road at NH66 crossing, near Mauli Temple, Poroscodem, Pernem, at around 1.10 pm when he was hit by a car driven by Siddesh Otvanekar (30), resident of Sawantwadi, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, who was proceeding from Dhargal to Sawantwadi.
Pernem Police arrested Siddesh and have registered a case under Sections 279 and 304 A of Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Congress slammed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho for remaining silent on the issue of road accidents.
“Enough is Enough! 5 lives lost in 48 hours on ‘killer roads’ of Goa but not a word from insensitive BJP, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho who are busy doing Narendra Modi propaganda. My thoughts are with the shattered and bereaved families,” Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Amit Patkar said.
“The BJP has taken Goans for granted and the BJP as well as the Government is functioning under an overdose of arrogance,”’ Patkar alleged.
