PANJIM: The ‘killer roads’ in the State continued to claim lives in fatal accidents during the year gone posing serious questions over road safety in the State.
O Heraldo reported how in a heart-wrenching incident that shook the community, a fatal accident in Banastarim claimed three lives and left 6 persons injured.
Police investigation brought to light unsettling revelations about the circumstances leading up to the tragedy.
According to a medical report, the driver of the vehicle, Shripad alias Paresh A Sinai Sawardekar, was allegedly found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. According to police, the ‘killer’ car was carrying a family of five. In a desperate attempt to safeguard her family after the accident, the wife took control of the driver’s seat.
In another tragic incident that unfolded on November 11, a 57-year-old Remedia Maria Albuquerque, the proprietor of Roma Resort in Vagator, met with a fatal accident.
While standing at the entrance of her resort, she was struck by a Haryana-registered vehicle as she was engaged in a phone conversation. The vehicle veered off the road, crashed through the gates, and pinned her against a pillar.
In another devastating incident, a fatal collision took place between two four-wheelers at Arpora junction, resulting in the loss of three lives. The incident unfolded around 3.30 am on December 2, 2023.
