PANJIM: Goa’s ‘killer’ roads continue to claim innocent lives as a taxi driver was killed while 16 others were injured in four separate accidents reported across the State as Sunday.
According to the Porvorim Police, in the first accident, a taxi driver Santosh Dodamani (30), a native of Karnataka and currently residing at Betim, died on the spot after his vehicle rammed into a parked truck near Gauri petrol pump, Porvorim. The accident occurred at wee hours. Dodamani was removed from the mangled taxi by the fire personnel and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors on duty declared him brought dead.
In another accident, 11 persons sustained injuries after a Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) bus rammed into a roadside tree at Sakharvaal-Torla, Shiroda. The accident occurred as the bus driver lost control over his vehicle. Among the injured included the bus conductor. All the injured were shifted to the District Hospital, Margao.
Two persons sustained injuries in the third accident involving a crane and a concrete mixer truck at Farmagudi-Dhavali bypass. While the crane driver was seriously injured, the truck driver sustained minor injuries.
The crane driver was proceeding to Shiroda to tow the ill-fated KTC bus, it was informed.
In the fourth accident, three persons were injured when a four-wheeler collided against a goods carrier and later a two-wheeler at Gokulwadi-Sankhali. The injured were shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim for treatment.
