Goa’s killer roads took 2 friends one day, 2 cousins the next day

22-year-old Deep Dilip Naik & 19-year-old Saheel Shankar Naik from Arambol were returning home when suddenly door of a parked rent-a-car opened and hit their two-wheeler; both fell on the road and were crushed by truck coming from the opposition direction

PerneM: In a tragic accident, two cousins died in a road accident at Arambol, Pernem, on Saturday evening.

According to the police, 22-year-old Deep Dilip Naik and his cousin 19-year-old Saheel Shankar Naik, both residents of Varchawada, Arambol, were returning home on a two-wheeler when suddenly door of a parked rent-a-car opened and hit the two-wheeler. With the collision, both Deep and Saheel fell off the two-wheeler. At the same time a truck which was coming from the opposition direction, hit them, causing severe injuries. 

It may be recalled that on Friday afternoon, two best friends – 21-one-year-old Tanvesh Naik and 19-year-old Shrikar Naik both from Sanvordem were crushed under the wheels of a truck in a dastardly road accident that occurred at Raloi, Curtorim. 

Deep and Saheel were immediately rushed to hospital, where Saheel was declared brought dead by the doctors, while Deep succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim.

The incident caused tension in the area as the locals gathered at the Mandrem police station demanding immediate action against the driver of the rent-a-car.

The Mandrem Police have registered a case under Sections 279, 338, 304 (A) of IPC and under Section 134 (a) (b) of Motor Vehicle Act. The police arrested two tourists one of them, who was driving the rent a car and both of them were taken to hospital for medical examination and alcohol test. Both the accused hail from Hyderabad. 

Meanwhile, the villagers have cancelled all Shiv Jayanti programmes in view of the accident.

Sant Sohirobanath Ambiye Government College of Arts and Commerce Virnoda, Pernem has condoled the death of its student Saheel Naik. In his condolence message, the college’s officiating principal Pravina Kerkar said that Saheel was a FY B Com student and he touched the lives of many with his hard work and kind attitude towards other. 

“Saheel will always hold a special place in our hearts. Our deepest condolence go out to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace,” Kerkar said.
