Panjim: Goa’s liquor manufacturing industry has taken up the initiative to produce sanitizers as the lockdown – due to the spread of COVID-19 – has stalled production and sale of liquor. Excise Commissioner Amit Satija has taken to social media to inform that 15 units have been granted approval for manufacturing sanitizers.
As on Thursday, the now-sanitizer production units have manufactured 1.93 lakh litres of sanitizers for Goa and other states. Out of the total, 33,500 litres have been allotted for government departments and Defense establishments free of cost under the CSR program.
Until around 10 days ago, the State exported 50,000 litres of alcohol based sanitizers to other States. Out of around 70,000 litres sanitizer liquid produced till then, 50,000 litres was sent to other States and 20,000 distributed within the State and to Navy establishments, etc.
Last month, the Excise Department had ordered closure of all breweries, wineries, country liquor bottling units, IMFL manufacturing units except those granted permission for manufacturing sanitizers and all liquor licensed premises for the sale of liquor, due to the lockdown. The sale of liquor has also been banned.
