MAPUSA – Matilda D’Souza, affectionately known as
“Matty” and Goa’s oldest woman, peacefully passed away on Sunday at
the age of 111. She breathed her last in a private hospital located in Mapusa.
Matilda D’Souza was born in Calangute on October 25, 1911,
just three years before the outbreak of World War I. She had been unwell for
the past 15 days and was receiving medical treatment initially at the Goa
Medical College and Hospital and later at a private hospital in Mapusa, where
she eventually passed away.
She is survived by her two sons and two daughters, as well
as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even
great-great-grandchildren. Sadly, she had lost her eldest son some years ago.
The funeral service for Matilda D’Souza is scheduled to take
place on September 19 at 3:30 pm at St. Alex Church in Calangute.
