Goa’s power needs in jeopardy

PANJIM: The State’s dream of Rs 25,000 crore investment in the next five years is tottering, if it hasn’t already crashed, after the Supreme Court order cancelling coal block allotments.

The block was supposed to take care of the State’s power needs – both domestic and industrial – for the next five to 10 years.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had put up a brave front earlier, saying that the coal block could be salvaged. He had told Herald that he would propose “to the government, that we will buy the entire power generated by the power KSK Mahanadi Power company. If there is no commercial use of power, the block can be saved, I feel. The other option is to buy power generated from imported coal which will increase the per unit cost by around 80 paisa.” Pg 5
