The much anticipated Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by the Goa government contesting the verdict of the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal did not come up for hearing before the Supreme Court on Wednesday. Goa’s legal representatives are now anticipating the matter to be listed for Thursday’s session.
Initially scheduled to be heard before Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice SVN Bhatti on Wednesday, December 6, as confirmed by Advocate General Devidas Pangam, the matter faced a no-show, echoing last week’s scenario when it was listed but not heard for two consecutive days.
In attendance in Delhi are Advocate General Pangam, accompanied by a four-member legal team, Water Resources chief engineer Pramod Badami along with a technical team, and consultants Chetan Pandit and M K Shrinivas. Representing the state are senior counsels Darius Khambata and Adv Venkatesh Dhond.
The SLP, filed by the State government back in July 2019, had its last hearing on July 10 of this year, wherein the Apex Court admitted Goa’s plea contesting the Mhadei Tribunal’s award. Despite delays in the court proceedings, Goa’s legal team remains prepared for the upcoming hearing, anticipating a resolution to the longstanding water dispute.
