Goa’s SLP on Mhadei Tribunal verdict fails to come up in SC again

PANJIM: The special leave petition (SLP) filed by the State government challenging the verdict of the Mhadei Disputes Tribunal failed to come up in the Supreme Court for the second week much to the dismay of the Goa legal team.

Last week, the matter could not be heard while, the same thing happened this week thus inviting criticism from the Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan (MBA).

Expressing her unhappiness, former Minister and MBA convenor Nirmala Sawant said that it is high time that the Chief Minister, Water Resources Minister and the Law Minister should look into the ongoing developments to save taxpayers money. She said that on both occasions, Goa’s legal teams camped in New Delhi and achieved nothing. It looks like that the legal tem and consultants are showing that they are doing something for Mhadei river.

Adv Bhavani Shankar Gadnis said that Goa’s advocate on record and the standing counsel failed to mention in the Apex Court about the matter. “Both, advocate on record and the standing counsel should have mentioned the matter so that the Judges could have given a date and might have kept the matter listed on top of the cause list when Court reopens after Christmas and winter vacation.”

Adv Gadnis said that there is no possibility of Goa’s SLP being listed next week as Court will hear only miscellaneous applications. Also there is little chance of the matter being listed after winter vacations, he said.
