Goa’s unique religious unity must be preserved, says Guv on Safa Masjid visit

Addressing the media, Pillai said that all religious and spiritual concepts lead to God, though people may opt to get there through different ways.

PONDA: Goa Governor PS  Sreedharan Pillai lauded the unique unity between Hindus, Muslims and Catholics in Goa, during a visit to the historic Safa Masjid on Monday, as part of his Goa Sampurna Yatra, during which he has traversed the length and breadth of the coastal State to connect with its people, and get to know it better.

He took a tour of the mosque and its picturesque grounds, led by Maulana Junaid Ahmed Quadri and Safa Masjid Committee President Mulla Mutuza, Bandora Sarpanch Sukanand Kurpaskar, Mithil Dhavlikar, and other panch members.

He also planted a coconut tree near the Safa Masjid which was built by Ibrahim Adil Shah in 1560 AD.

Addressing the media, Pillai said that all religious and spiritual concepts lead to God, though people may opt to get there through different ways. “The truth is one, and all ways of devotion reach the same truth,” he said.

“For the progress and strengthening of our country, we need unity among citizens of all religions. Goa is a classic example of unity among Hindus, Muslims and Catholics, and we need to preserve this unique unity.” said Pillai.

The Governor later visited several temples in Dharbandora.
