Godinho downplays apprehensions on HSRP

Even as the State government has begun implementing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) amidst opposition from certain quarters, Minister for Transport Mauvin Godinho has allayed apprehensions over the registered plates’ safety methods.
He clarified that HSRP do not have chips but are equipped with other tamper proof technologies such as hologram, unique laser code and reflective property.
“There is no chip but the security features are very clear. It has holograms fixed on it, which acts as a proof and gathers all the details (of the owner of the vehicle during any emergency). It also has a laser bolt engraved. Therefore, I don’t think there should be any controversy regarding the HSRP,” he stated.
He further informed that the contractor has been given five years time to complete fixing HSRP on all vehicles across Goa. “But their endeavor will be to complete the work in 24 months to 30 months,” he said.  He also informed that installing HSRP with nut and bolt is illegal and that an order in this regard will be issued to the two-wheeler dealers to stop the illegal practice.  The minister reiterated that the issue should not be politicized as is being done in the present scenario and instead to ensure safety of the vehicles, a move taken by the Centre after the parliament attack.
“Our Goans have to realize that everywhere we cannot get concession. HSRP started after parliament attack. Is it not justified? Are we going to oppose that also? Everywhere we try to build politics of it. Some are being instigated… this should not be done,” he said as he launched a scathing attack on those people and NGOs opposing to HSRP.
