Goenchi Mati film premiere on Thursday

PANJIM: The much-anticipated documentary, titled “Goenchi Mati: A new perspective on mining” that has been endorsed by Goa Foundation, will have its premiere on Thursday, while its global online premiere will be held, on Friday.

This was announced at its press screening held on Tuesday. The Goa premiere will be held at Design Center, Porvorim on March 18, at 6 pm while the global premiere will be held on March 19, on YouTube, at 5 pm.

When asked what the film is about, “The Goenchi Mati Movement” said it discusses some of the problems of mining and how it has been unfair to the people, even the mining dependent who are supposedly benefiting from mining.

They further stated that the film also suggests that there is a much better way to conduct mining that is fair to our future generations and everyone in Goa would also benefit today.

The 43-minute-long film by the Living Heritage Foundation is directed by Marc Francis and Mohan Kumar Mochi.

It includes notable figures such as Raju Nayak, editor — Lokmat, Haresh Melwani — mining firm owner and Late Dadubhai Mandrekar — poet, writer and social activist and Claude Alvares, director, Goa Foundation. It also features five songs and a tiatr skit created and performed exclusively for the film.

The film is also supported by ‘Thus’, an organisation that looks to establish and encourage this culture by identifying and organising venues and curating the presentation of ideas that are at the intersection of art, activism, innovation and inspiration.
