MARGAO: Goencho Avaaz (GA) will be staging a silent protest on Saturday at 10.30 am at the Ravindra Bhavan traffic circle against the “Politics of Names” at a time when the problems faced by Goans are ignored.
Briefing media persons, Captain Viriato Fernandes, said it’s unfortunate that Fatorda MLA and Goa Forward Party (GFP) Chief Vijai Sardesai has stooped so low to use former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar’s name for his selfish gains.
“While nobody is speaking about the onion prices, or the environmental disaster in the name of Canacona highway, we have Vijai talking about naming a road in his constituency after Parrikar,” said Viriato.
Dr Francisco Colaco recalled how Vijai and Parrikar used to bad mouth each other and said the present tussle is nothing but an attempt to divert people’s minds from the actual issues facing them.
While questioning what Parrikar had done for Margao or Salcete, Dr Colaco said there were other eminent Goans after whom the road could be named.
He accused Vijai of raking up issues only for his political gains and bringing about the destruction of Goa and Goans in the name of Goem and Goemkarponn. “He supported the person who was getting formalin-laced fish in Goa, he changed the ODP of Margao by using bouncers,” Dr Colaco added.
Jose Maria Miranda accused Vijai of betraying the people of Fatorda by first supporting Parrikar and then CM Pramod Sawant and continuing to be a part of the NDA. He also called the naming of roads as gimmicks for votes.
He also wondered how Vijai who used to praise Dr Jack Sequeira could suddenly now align with Shiv Sena the very organization that Dr Sequeira fought against and added that Vijai is only looking after his political interests and not the interest of Goa.
Roshan Mathias highlighted the consequences of changes brought about by Vijai by amending the TCP Act.
Roshan further appealed to Parrikar admirers not to fall prey to Vijai’s machinations.
Santosh Chari pointed out that instead of providing employment or employment opportunities to the youth, Goan politicians are involved in politics of naming road and said Vijai did not help in any manner in job creation when he was a minister.
