Goencho Ekvott wants sluice gate restored, construction debris removed

PANJIM: Goencho Ekvott (GE) has said that it will not rest “until the industrial slag, construction debris and loose earth was ruthlessly dumped on both sides of the railway tracks in Guirdolim is removed on a war footing”.

“We will also not rest until the sluice gate on the Zuari rivulet is restored utilising the Rs 2.98 crore compensation award (from the Railways) to the Water Resources Department (WRD), which is not sufficient financial grant to restore the pristine farmland in Chandor/Guirdolim to its original form,” said Orville Dourado Rodrigues, GE Founder Member.

GE appreciated the exemplary show of unity exhibited by the villagers of Guirdolim, Chandor and other villages, which obtained the desired results in a fairly quick time.

GE praised the villagers for applying sustained pressure on the Guridolim  Panchayat and WRD including Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues who issued directions to the WRD engineers to immediately inspect the Naukhazan Lake and take legal action if any illegal activities were noticed.

“No sooner had the dual inspection reports by the WRD and Guirdolim’s Biodiversity Management Committee been filed, the WRD acted promptly and issued the stop work order to the RVNL/SWR. The role of Maina-Curtorim Police Station Police Inspector Sagar Ekoskar is to be lauded for requesting RVNL to stop the mud filling by five days, thus averting a law and order issue,” Rodrigues added.
